An urgent reminder from Dr. Abay about the Tigray region

The 2012 general election in Ethiopia, by dividing the country
If the situation in the country worsens, the Institute has advised the government to delay the upcoming elections.

The International Crisis Group, which is known for its analysis of international crises, predicts that the expected elections in Ethiopia could exacerbate the crisis in various parts of the country.

William Davison, senior analyst at International Crisis Group at the International Crisis Group, told German Voice Radio (DW) that if the recent political and security crises in Ethiopia deteriorate, there will be “no opportunity for free and fair elections”.

The situation could not be resolved as a viable solution for resolving political disputes, says the analyst, adding that such a situation could “aggravate the division.”

The danger is that we can reach a point where free and fair elections are not possible.

Moreover, instead of being a cure for the division of the country, we can make it even worse, ”said Davison.

They also cited reasons why the election may be postponed.

The analyst, who highlighted the events in Oromia last October and the conflicts in different areas over the past 18 months, says it is difficult to hold a national election if such conflicts continue.

Davis said that if the relocation of hundreds of thousands of people has been reversed, the election could be postponed.

The election could be extended if the major powers expected to participate in the election agreed to “not participate in the process,” the analyst said.

We have seen that some dissidents are not happy with the Election Board and the new Election Law. This was not a significant reason for delaying the election. But if there is a mass disruption of the electoral plan, election board or other electoral processes, it can be considered one reason to delay the inclusive election, ”Davison said.
